Shredded Dress: NY Fashion Week Tent Style

Have shredded dresses come back into style? This New York Fashion Week go-er matched her shredded dress with a fur hat, cut-off jacket and black leggings. The long side braid was a great addition to the look.

Silk Jacket: NY Fashion Week Tent Style

There's something extremely elegant in using silk as fabric. I haven't seen the material much on menswear so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this New York Fashion Week attendee sporting a light violet silk jacket. I love that he paired it with a blue tie and white undershirt!

Yellow Coat Dress: NY Fashion Week Tent Style

Coat dresses are my personal favourite! I couldn't help noticing this bright yellow coat dress at New York Fashion Week. When inquiring on where she got such a lovely piece I found out her name is Brittany DeSheilds and she designed it herself! The side brooch was a nice touch too.

Vacca Fall/Winter 2011 | New York Fashion Week

The Vacca Fall/Winter 2011 collection presented during New York Fashion Week was mostly a mix between jackets and printed paisley dresses. The colours were very reminiscent of Fall with a mix between reds, browns, greys, and black. The most memorable part of this collection was the addition of the paisley print. The prints were so romantic and almost reminded your of old European paintings. They really made the collection stand out against the solid coloured pieces that were more prevalent this season.

Julie Vacca the designer of the brand describes her inspiration for the VACCA Fall/Winter 2011 collection to the Huffington Post as a mix between heritage and architecture.
"We built a marble stage for our show at Lincoln Center and you could hear her heels walking on the marble, which could have been in an Italian palazzo at Lake Como. She is chic, she is elegant, she is natural. This palazzo could have belonged to her ancestors long ago. The scenery of Lake Como in the Fall, when it is not crowded with tourists, is absolutely breathtaking. The grey stillness of the water reflects throughout the whole collection, like in the wool mohair coat or one of the silk jersey gowns. The classic paisley prints that are played on modern silhouettes show you that she loves what is modern but has an appreciation for the past. A perfect example is when she wears the red velvet gown with silk paisley trim, and throws a motorcycle jacket over it. She is at ease, she knows that she is beautiful and feels cosy in the soft fabrics of fall.”

Zang Toi Fall/Winter 2011 | New York Fashion Week

Zang Toi really delivered an exceptional show this season full of glamour, sky high hairdo’s and even a New York City housewife!

Toi’s Fall/Winter 2011 collection was all about opulence and elegance all mixed in with beautiful detailing that included built in jewellery, fur and lace. The looks were mostly suits, long coats and elegant dresses and also a few menswear pieces.

One of my favourites was the black silk velvet gala gown with emerald swarovski crystal grand gala necklace. It truly exemplified the amount of workmanship that went into his collection.

According to the press notes: Zang Toi's “Timeless Beauties” is a collection that embodies sheer elegance. Through a skillful blend of luxurious fabrics--in classic shades of camel & charcoal, black & nude with hints of brilliant emerald-- it is designed for the stylish and sophisticated palate. This treasure trove of finely crafted tailoring encapsulates the heritage of Zang Toi and is meant to be savoured and adored for generations.

The highlight of the evening was a cameo by Jill Zarin from “The Real Housewives of New York City” modelling a stunning strapless black gown with ornate embroidery as the final look.
