“Starry” by Esther Li: Let the Beauty of the Jewels Speak for Itself

By the time I finished photoshooting at Starry, I knew right away that I didn't need to write a long attractive text for this unique handmade jewellery boutique. I decided to let the jewellery pieces sold at Starry speak for themselves as their beauty is simply beyond words to describe. When I popped into Starry by chance four days before photoshooting, I was entirely dazzled by the display showcase filled with a lot of really stunning bits that I couldn't take my eyes off it. Esther Li is an amazing local Chinese handmade jewellery designer for whom designing is an opportunity to satisfy her passion. She doesn't mass produce products; each design is individually handcrafted in a very small quantity and is therefore totally unique, so in other words each piece is made a true rare masterpiece, which surely makes the wearer feel privileged. Esther aims to come up with original designs which can strike a balance between the designer's distinctive signature style and the needs of the market, and I would say she made it.

Using the finest semi-precious gemstones, Swarvoski crystals and vintage components, Esther creates a timeless collection of handcrafted jewellery and vintage inspired accessories, which features a wonderful selection of beautiful bangles, earrings, necklaces and brooches. I especially like the multi-coloured crystal embellished bangles with which I bling my eyes out. There is absolutely nowhere else you can get such exquisite designs, excellent craftsmanship and luxurious materials at an affordable price better than these in Starry, perhaps yes in some reputable department stores like Lane Crawford at double the price.

It was in fact very hard to pick a favorite as all the designs were so jaw-droppingly gorgeous that I couldn't make up my mind what to purchase. What do you think?

Esther's design style is considered to be a perfect fusion of vintage and modernity with sophisticated elegance which appeals to women of all ages who are tasteful, classy, and love wearing accessories which would accentuate the best parts of their body.

The designer searched worldwide for these Chinese wedding dragon phoenix candles for the window display. Not only are westerners obsessed with the exotic Chinese customs, so am I.

If you happen to be in town, do drop by Starry or click into www.starryintl.com.hk to experience in person the enchanting design journey of Esther.

Audrey Hepburn Photos

No-one can deny the Audrey Hepburn influences in the Spring Summer collections of various high street designers right now and everyone loves to see more and more photos of the ever-classical Audrey Hepburn. Of course, Audrey has always been in fashion but it seems at the moment that the return to the truly feminine dress has caused a Hepburn revival. Dresses with cutesy collars are everywhere in the shops and can even be found in two different colours, bright pink and yellow, in Miss Selfridges in the same design! What could be cuter than a shift dress with pretty collar paired with a pair of Audrey sunglasses and ballerinas? This classical combination will never go out of fashion.

Audrey remarked of the designer Hubert de Givenchy that, ‘He gave me a kind of look, a silhouette…What is more beautiful than a simple sheath made an extraordinary way in a special fabric, and just two earrings?’ This sheath look emphasized Hepburn’s famous gamine look and began to mean ultimate femininity.

She appeared on covers of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar but her secret to success was that she stuck with fashion that suited her. However, pretty much anyone can carry off the Hepburn look today even if you are not slim and petite. A shift dress can be flattering on any figure and any woman can look great in ballerinas. The timeless elegance of Hepburn is achievable by everyone. Flowers like roses, larger than life earrings and a loveable feeling for fashion is all necessary to pull off the Hepburn look. Remember above all to feel comfortable; Hepburn was actually said to value comfort over fashion.

At the artistspringboard.com try looking at Sally-Ann Provan’s stylish Hepburn Cameos to really get into that classic 1920s style. Sally Ann Provan is a milliner with links in Edinburgh and London who makes head-pieces and her collection was shown at London Fashion week is for sale on artistspringboard.com.
